British Values

At Meadlands, the British Values: Democracy, Rule of Law, Mutual respect for different beliefs and cultures and Individual Liberty are integrated into our curriculum in a variety of ways: in R.E. lessons, through trips to places of worship, assemblies, Global Goals lessons and PSHE lessons. 

Please see our British Values assemblies to understand how each value is demonstrated in our school community. 

Democracy Electing House Captains via secret ballot, voting on class rewards or book choices, voting for the school charity, voting for Sport's Personality of the year, voting for Poetry Slam finalists, Children's Choice Assemblies, our House names were suggested and voted on by the children. 
Rule of Law Collaboratively creating Class Rules, inviting visits from the Police or Fire Service, Voices Off in corridors, and discussing the consequences of breaking rules.
Individual Liberty Providing opportunities for children to choose their own learning challenges, extra-curricular clubs, and encouraging them to express personal opinions safely, Debate Club. 
Mutual Respect Using circle time to share feelings, running, using our Agree, Build, Challenge model to hold class discussions, debate club, celebrating individual achievements in assemblies, Equalities Week. 
Respect for different cultures and beliefs Celebrating religious festivals, visiting diverse places of worship, VIP Day, using books that feature different cultures, Equalities Week.
