How do you make an Egyptian mummy? What’s the highest mountain in Mexico? Who wrote War Horse? What type of wood should you use to make a bird box? How quickly can you and your class make a Roman Tortoise (testudo) formation? How do you look after a chicken? These are just some of the questions the children at Meadlands explore and find the answers to through our creative curriculum.
Every year the children dive into 4 or 5 curriculum topics. These are planned carefully against the National Curriculum objectives but we also do our best to weave in the children’s interests and curiosities as well as our teacher’s expertise. Phases work together over a 2 year cycle.
Every topic begins with an invigorating and exciting big bang experience, be this a trip to a West End theatre, a classroom transformed into a Chinese restaurant or the gory (and quite funny) experience of mummifying a teacher assistant! The children are then taken on a journey of their topic through the domains of science, design technology, outdoor learning, art and humanities – where possible we make these subject links.
