Spanish Annual Report to Governors 2015-16

The modern foreign language we offer at Meadlands is Spanish; this is taught by our specialist language teacher Mrs Pearman. We have strong links with the University of Barcelona and welcome a Foreign Language Assistant from there for one month every year.

Music Annual Report to Governors 2015-16

Meadlands' children love music! We take every opportunity to learn through song and music is linked with class learning topics as much as is possible. Children from nursery to year 6 have their weekly music lessons with Mrs Pearman, our specialist music teacher. This year, we are taking exciting steps to develop our music curriculum further and all pupils in years 2 and 3 will be learning the recorder, all pupils in years 4 and 5 will be learning the ukulele. As part of a whole school initiative to develop a love of music, EYFS will be starring in their own Singing Festival with other Ham schools this academic year, Year 1 will be forming their own percussion band and year 6 will be performing at the O2 arena, singing in the Young Voices concert in January.

Dear Parents

Firstly, a huge ‘thank you’ to all the children and their sponsors for raising such a fantastic amount of money for our music department! I hope to make Meadlands’ music even more exciting and jam-packed with fun learning opportunities this coming year. Mrs McGeoch gave me a brief:

  • To give each year group something special to look forward to

  • To increase the number of opportunities to perform

  • To increase the number of pupils learning and instrument

I have given this a lot of thought, spoken to the children and with the Senior Leadership team and we have put together a programme to fit the bill! Have a look at the PDF below to see what’s in store. A separate letter will be on its way to parents of children in years 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 (next years, 2-5) regarding recorder and ukulele music lessons. Similarly, with so many new events and clubs planned, more information will follow in the new academic year, to all families.

To kick-start our musical extravaganza we will be having a ‘Big Bang, Big Sing!’ just as with class topics. Watch out for a date in the messenger in September as it will be an open invitation to parents and carers to attend, too.

Yours sincerely

Mrs A Pearman
