Welcome to Nursery Bee Hummingbirds Class
In Hummingbird Class we’re the smallest around,
But don’t let that fool you for we make the loudest sound!
Learning through play is what we like to do,
With carpet sessions, small group work and boosters thrown in too.
Miss Mace sets up activities to help us learn more,
Asking questions and explaining, we will learn it for sure.
Mrs Holroyd and Mrs Nicholas help us out too,
And Miss Hutchins comes in the afternoons and our learning shows through.
We learn numbers and sounds and making up songs,
Through topics like dinosaurs, pirates and minibeasts – we’d stay all day long!
Sessions are morning or afternoon, 3 hours each.
With a chance to do all day – there’s so much to teach!
We look at social, emotional, personal and speaking skills
Add in maths and literacy it just gives us thrills.
So we hope that you’d like to come to Hummingbird Class
Have a look through our page it’s truly first-class!

Class door competition
The Hummingbird door represents the learning value of independence. Independence is such a huge part of starting nursery and the start of the children’s journey into school life and into the Meadlands family. Our door highlights our journey with a poem which highlights the aspects of nursery that can be a bit tricky or scary from saying goodbye to mummy and daddy to learning to give things a go without help and pushing ourselves to try new things.
We celebrated Burn’s night in Hummingbird Class by trying on Scottish clothes and learning the highland fling. We baked some oatcakes and even tried Haggis!
As part of our topic ‘People Who Help Us’ we had lots of visitors. We got to go in a fire engine and squirt the hose with the firefighters. We learnt how to be safe with PC Mick and learnt all about ambulances with Emma the Paramedic. We even had a visit from some lovely parents, one was a vetenary nurse and the other a dentistery nurse. We learn so much through visitors so it was great to have so many!
Hummingbird Class went on a trip to Ham library. We walked all the way there and were super behaved! We listened to stories read by the librairian and then got to have a look at some of the stories ourselves.
As a class we went on a minibeast hunt in our very own wildlife area and field. We found many different bugs including spiders, centipedes, millipedes and woodlice. We loved looking at them up close.
