Barcelona goes to Meadlands

The children of had a taste of Spain on Friday.  To celebrate the arrival of Miss Aligue, a teacher from their link school in Barcelona, children and staff took part in a special Super Learning Day.

The children and staff came to school dressed in either red and yellow or Spanish costume, and participated in a range of exciting activities, including recreating the work of Gaudi, preparing and cooking Tapas, learning to speak Spanish and dancing the Flamenco.

A live webcam link with Carols Buigas, their link school, was set up, so that children in both countries could sing songs they had learnt in each other’s language.

Rob Meakin said:  “This Super Learning Day was held to enable our children to take part in activities based on the global dimension to education.  We all had great fun on the day – I would like to thank our staff and parent helpers for all the energy and enthusiasm they put in to making the day such a success.”

Anna in Year 6 said:  “I think all the activities were awesome.  If I was someone new, or very young, I would really enjoy it.  Super Learning Days are really fun, and you get to learn so many new things!”

Two special ‘Barcelona!’ assemblies were also held, one at 9.15am to launch the day and one at 2.45pm, so that parents could find out what their children had been learning – and dance the Macarena!
