Funding for year 2015/2016 : £1518.45
In summer 2015 we received our first amount of EYPP funding. We used this grant to further improve Speech and Language development and increase ways of working together with our families, particularly those new to Meadlands. We were able to purchase some additional speech and language support from a S&L therapist to work with the nursery children, and also provide specific training for our staff to focus on opportunities for language development in the environment. We then used some of this funding to purchase resources to specifically enhance these opportunities, such as the talking telephones and conversation stations. We were also able to run an extremely successful parent workshop, where parents were invited to share a story with their children. The staff modelled questioning techniques and the children, their parents and siblings all worked together to build a communication friendly space using materials that they could easily find around their homes.
This year we have expanded upon our speech and language support, and invested in even more resources to support early language development and early phonics. We have invested in staff training in Lego Therapy and Quality Circle Time, as well as investing in a specialist drama teacher to work with children to build confidence and communication skills. We are lucky to have ELSA support at school, and have been able to allow our ELSA to work with the children in EYs one day per week, to ensure the emotional needs of our PPG children are well met.
In Reception we have also been able to run a weekly phonics workshop for children, run by the class teaching assistant which has proved to be both popular and worthwhile.
How we intend to spend the money in the summer term
This term we will use the pupil premium funding in the following ways:
Further development of Speech and language support (staff training and therapist led intervention)
Maintain ELSA support
Roll out Lego therapy to more children
Quality circle time and self-esteem building workshops for more children
Extra support for families with home learning
Literacy and Math’s parent workshops

Attainment at the end of EYFS in 2015 was at its highest ever, with a GLD of 64.5%, and is now in line with national.
100% of children eligible for PP with no other identified need achieved a GLD.
Early intervention in speech and language remains a priority. Early intervention in the Nursery has had a positive impact on the children’s entry level to our Reception class
